THE VIDEO PROCESS:

1) WRITE A STORY

Every video needs a plan of what you want to document, what story you hope to convey.  What process you want to illustrate.

2) CREATE A PLOT

Every Plot provides you with the details that keep the story alive.  For an interview the plot are the questions you ask.  For a process, the plot are the specific steps in the process.

3) DEVELOP A STORYBOARD

A storyboard provides a visual guide to both the plot along with actions, scenes, sounds, titles and effects to be used.

4) FILM YOUR SEQUENCE

The actual turning the camera on to take your video.  Remember:  The shorter the better, it will save instructional time and editing time.

5) RE-TAKE SEQUENCE ( if needed)

It is better to re-take a sequence than to waste too much time editing.  Even professionals will film certain sequences more than once and select the best shots.

6) EDIT

This is the most time consuming part of the process because you have to connect your camera to the computer and wait to convert the tape to digital format on your computer. then you can use the storyboard to edit the parts you want to keep.   Here you can add titles and effects before you finish editing.

7) SAVE

You can save your work to a variety of formats.  How you plan to distribute your video will affect which format you should choose.

8) DISTRIBUTE

Save your video to a good format and distribute it.   The most popular method is to create a DVD so your film can be viewed on a home DVD player.
