Course Description

This course provides an overview of microcomputer applications including a brief introduction to computer concepts, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Web pages, and integration of the applications.

This course will have a lab assignment each week listed in the course overview handout and online at the class web page.

Student Conduct In-Class Policy: Any acts of classroom disruption that go beyond the normal rights of students to question and discuss with instructors the educational process relative to subject content will not be tolerated, in accordance with the Academic Code of Conduct described in the Student Handbook.

Electronic Devices In-Class Policy: Cellular phones, pagers, CD players, radios, and similar devices are prohibited in the classroom and laboratory facilities. If you have a cell phone, Please turn it off during class.

Assignments: Assignments are posted on the class web site (www.bcvic.net/cs160). Each week in class we will review specific application skills needed for the assignments.

Late Work: Late assignments are penalized 25%, and assignments two weeks late are penalized 50%. Plan to spend several hours each week working on laboratory assignments.

Preparing for Quizzes and Exams: Attend lectures and read the chapters. At the end of each project, check the "What you should Know" section for a summary of skills that you should know. The Quick Reference Summary is available online at www.scsite.com/off2000/qr.htm.

In Case You Are Late or Absent: It is your responsibility to get the course notes, handouts, and laboratory assignments should you miss class or be late. Material will be available on the CIS 160 Web page and students are responsible to check it on a regular basis.

Appeals Policy: To appeal a grade, send an e-mail to your instructor's e-mail address within two weeks of the grade having been received. Overdue appeals will not be considered. Make sure you have all your work saved.
